Meeting Minutes for SCBOWBO

November 28, 2005

Meeting Minutes: Monday, November 28, 2005
THIRD GENERAL MEETING
:

  • Tony Churlin brought the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.
  • Larry Kiger presented last year's "Apprentice of the Year" Award to Leslie Tidball.
  • Ashley Thomas gave a 5-minute presentation on game preparation.
  • Tony reminded officials to make sure their availability calendars are correct in Arbiter.  There were 22 turnbacks and that is a very high number.  If you list yourself as available on a particular day, why would you then reject a game assigned to you on that day?  If your availability changes, then go into Arbiter and change your availability.
  • Tony fielded questions from officials.  We will not shoot bonus free throws this year when one of the new "team control fouls" occurs.  Educate your timekeepers about the new 30-second shot clock rule.  If there is a held ball and the ball will be retained by the offense, we do NOT reset the shot clock.
  • Tony gave a three-person demo including coverage areas, rotations, switches and free-throw procedure.
  • Dan Taylor announced that there is a lot of rec ball this weekend and he is looking for officials to cover all the games.
  • Dan Taylor announced that all officials need to go into Arbiter and enter their address and phone number info.
  • The attendance raffle shirt was won by Steve Wirth.

Board Meeting afterwards
Attending: Tony Churlin, Troy Moe, Greg Osborne, Ashley Thomas, Larry Kiger, Jack Palmer
:

  • Tony Churlin reported that the letter on raising mileage has been mailed to the schools.
  • Greg Osborne agreed to talk about basketball and injuries on the court at the next meeting.
  • Larry Kiger agreed to check into the Washington State Patrol background check forms.
  • The board discussed the possibility of reducing the assigning fee being charged to our officials by the association.
  • The board discussed the issue of a referee volunteering to be the third person in a 3-person game. The Board decided that officials should only do the games that they are assigned to do. Otherwise it could create a lot of problems. This only applies to volunteering to make a 2-person game into a 3-person game. It does not apply to a referee filling in for an assigned official who is absent or late.
