Meeting Minutes for SCBOWBO

November 17, 2003

Meeting Agenda: Monday, November 17, 2003:

  • Ashley asked if anyone had an questions from the recent interpreter's meeting. The only question had to do with the "Allen Iverson finger socks" that many players are now wearing. Are they allowed as legal equipment or banned as "jewelry?" Kevin Erickson will follow up with the WOA for a clarification.

Ashley also urged everyone to be very professional and supportive of our new assignor. Anyone who feels that they are being treated unfairly should bring their concerns to Ashley who will then discuss it with the board.

  • Kevin Erickson explained how the new assigning software works based on availabily, ratings, and level of game. He also asked the member's patience since we have a new program and a new assingor. It may take a few assigning periods before it is working "perfectly."

Kevin also printed up the meeting notes from prior meetings (as well as the summer board meetings and the interpreter's meeting) to be made available for any interested referees.

Finally, he thanked Gunther Hausmann, Dan Taylor and Tony Churlin who volunteered their time last week to enter school schedules into the association computer during a time when our assingor position was "in limbo."

Kevin also told officials to let Lee Ottini and Dan Taylor know if any of them get "double-scheduled" with the boy's association. LEE AND DAN WILL DO THE RESCHEDULING.

  • Larry Kiger gave a brief report on the progress of apprentice training.
  • Tim Wheatley presented the proposed changes to the ratings system brought forward by the summer ratings committe. These changes will be briefly discussed and then voted on at the next meeting.
  • Pat Kaminske presented the proposed injury policy to be voted on by members. There was one clarification question asked in regards to an official who was injured and then returned later in the season. The board has "re-worded" the proposed injury policy to include this possibility as well.
  • Kevin announced that game fees for all levels have gone up $1.50 per game from last year.
Kevin Erickson announced that he is starting a list of officials who would like to have one of their games taped this year. Dave Muscatell will be taping officials as well and we hope to get a video tape made of any official who wishes to see themselves in action for improvement.
  • Pat Kaminske gave out service pins to Dan Taylor and Tim Wheatley and thanked them for their many years of excellent service.
  • Coach Mark Neuman from Granite Falls High School was our guest speaker. He discussed things that officials can do to help coaches including hustle (regardless of the level of the game) and communication with coaches and players.
  • Larry Kiger passed out the state rules test. It is due to be turned in by the December 15 meeting.
  • Jason Bradley briefly discussed our player, coach, and host school Award program that we have every year. Nominations will be accepted at every meeting and then we will vote by ballot at the end of the year.
  • Ashley talked about scrimmages and stressed the importance of having at least 3 officials at each one. Scrimmage forms were available and it appears as if we were able to fill every one of them.
  • Kevin took pictures of officials for the SCBOWBO website.
  • Gunther discussed the scholarship program (we give two $500.00 scholarships to deserving student-athletes from referee donations) and passed out donation slips to all officials in attendance. He also administered the attendance raffle which was won by Greg Osborne.

Gunther took attendance by having all officials sign-in.

BOARD MEETING AFTERWARDS:
  • The board agreed that the new assignor will receive an additional half-month's pay ($425.00) in addition to the $4300.00 that is remaining of the yearly assignor salary. This is because the previous assigner has already been paid the November draw and Dan took the job halfway through December. Monthly draws will be discontinued. Dan will receive a draw of $1500.00 on January 1 and the remainder of his salary at the end of the junior high season.
  • The board requests that our new assignor only officiate afternoon games and emergency fill-in assignments.
NEXT MEETING: December 1, 2003 at 7:00 PM
