General Meeting Held at 7 PM on Monday, November 15, 2004 at the Everett Elks club:
(Apprentice Meeting at 6 PM)

  • Ashley Thomas welcomed everyone and got the meeting underway.
  • Larry Kiger thanked the veterans who assisted in the recent apprentice training. There will be 2 more apprentice training sessions at Lakewood.
  • Test forms were handed out. Tests must be turned in by December 13. Any official failing to turn their test in by December 13 will not receive any assignments.
  • There was an open discussion about the recent interpreter's meeting. Topics covered included legal guarding position relating to a defender's foot touching the sideline, a player intentionally leaving the playing floor, the 14-foot coach box and flopping.
  • Ashley briefed officials on the board meeting the other night. 3-person officiating will occur this year at for 2A, 3A and 4A on Wednesday nights utilizing the top 15 rated officials.(not just 4A). All other games will be 2-person officiating.
  • Jason Bradley and the board are working up a way to address how 3-person affects the ratings system. More details at the next meeting.
  • Pat Kaminske gave out service awards to the eligible officials who were in attendance. Scott Morris hit his 5-year milestone and Gunther Hausmann hit his 40-year milestone.
  • Assignor Dan Taylor announced that assignments are not complete due to limited availability by officials. Dan will be calling officials to try to get more availability given to SCBOWBO. Schedules will be mailed and he will probably schedule through Dec 13 or Dec 14. November 30 is the first day of the season. There are 4 jamborees and 3 scrimmages and officials are encouraged to work at least one. Puget Sound Traveling League starts this weekend in Tolt. SCBOWBO will assign games for Kings High School this year.
  • The following officials are taking leaves of absence this year: Paul Patterson, John Johnson, Chuck Moore, Gregg Bartley and Matt Kon.
  • Troy Moe had Gunther Hausmann reach into the hat to choose a name for the attendance raffle. As luck would have it, Gunther chose his own name and will receive a free official's shirt.

BOARD MEETING

The board of directors has approved a $1.00 per game per official fee increase for recreation ball games. The fees are adjusted as follows:
Puget Sound Traveling League fees are now $26.00
Marysville Parks and Rec Games are now $21.00
CYO games are now 21.00

The board discussed how to handle the effect that 3-person officiating will have on our ratings system. All crew members will rate each other for the game during 3-person games. JV officials are expected to stay and observe at least half of the 3-person varsity game to get acquainted with the mechanics and new positions and other intracacies of 3-person officiating. JV Officials will not rate the varsity officials for 3-person games. More details (and a vote?) at the next meeting.

A proposal was made to change the ratings to include more numeric numbers, perhaps by adding tenths or halves to the current criteria of 1 through 9. The concern is that there are some ties in the current ranking system. (7 ties last year).

There was discussion about the boy's association attendance policy of allowing their members to get credit for a boys meeting if they attended the girls meeting on the same week. It was decided that members from the girls association will not get credit towards the required 75% mandatory meeting attendance if they attend a boys meeting on the same week as the girls meeting.

  • The next general meeting will be held on November 29 at 7:00 PM
    at the Everett Elks Club.
