Meeting Minutes for SCBOWBO
|
|
|
Summary of meeting held Monday, June 3, 2002:
In attendance: Rick Byrum, Gunther Hausmann, Kevin Erickson,
Jim Shaw, Jason Bradley, Glenn Dunbar.
-
Kevin Erickson summarized the recent mileage fee increase request
submitted by our association along with the boys association to
the athletic directors of the schools we serve. $20.00 will be charged
to outlying schools (Darrington, Skykomish and Cedarcrest) and $15.00
will be charged to all other schools. This is a 20% increase. This is
the first increase request made in 11 years which made it far more difficult
than it needed to be. In the future, the board of directors should request
smaller fee increased every couple of years.
-
Mileage fee "caps" for crossover games was approved as follows:
Whatcom County: $40.00
Skagit County: $30.00
Island County: $30.00
-
Financial Advisor Jim Shaw reported that there are still 6 referees who have failed to turn
in their high school pay sheets. There are 12 referees who have failed to
turn in their junior high school pay sheets. Late sheets for the high school
games will be levied fines according to the "due date" guidelines. A "due
date" guideline has been added to the pay sheet form. In future years,
fines will also be levied against late junior high school pay sheets.
-
Financial Advisor Jim Shaw presented a "snapshot" of our association financial health.
The financial health is good. NOTE: This is the first time in several years that
we have our revenues and expenses tracked so well and are prepared for an audit on a
moment's notice. Jim's timely and accurate record-keeping has saved the association
a considerable amount of money. The board voted a raise of $1,000 for Jim Shaw
raising his salary to $2,500 per year.
-
Dan Taylor and Mike Shumway have now completed their 3-year service on the board
of directors. Their contribution has been much appreciated. They will each receive
an SCBOWBO watch for their efforts. In the future, departing board members will
receive a watch for thier first term of service. Future terms of service will be
rewarded with a plaque and a $50.00 dinner certificate. Welcome to new members
Jason Bradley and Pat Kaminski.
-
Glenn Dunbar reported that retired referee Dick Rodland was given the Meritorious
Award by the WIAA at the WOA banquet earlier this spring.
-
Gunther reported on our yearly scholarship program. We had only 9 applicants for
the program this year and it is obvious that the applications are not making it
to all the senior athletes as is our intention. Gunther will attend the athletic
directors meeting later this year and ask them for advice on how to better ensure
that all senior girl basketball players received a scholarship application.
-
Assignor Rick Byrum presented the final ratings and they were approved by
the board. Kevin Erickson will send the ratings to each referee along
with a newsletter created by Kevin and Glenn Dunbar.
-
Kevin Erickson expressed concern that we do not currently take backups on Rick
Byrum's scheduling computer nor on Jim Shaw's financial computer. Association
game schedules and financial records are in danger of being lost. Kevin will
research prices on backup solutions and report to the board at our next meeting.
Kevin also expressed concern that our recreation program games are scheduled
by hand (in a notebook) and that there is no backup of the notebook. Kevin will
discuss possible backup solutions for recreation ball with recreation assignor,
Dan Taylor.
-
This was the final board meeting for the "old" board of directors. The new board
will convene their first meeting on Monday, July 15. All summer board meetings for
the new board will be held at Alfy's pizza in Snohomish at 7:00 PM. Much thanks
goes out to President Glenn Dunbar whose meetings were always organized, professional,
and productive. Glenn will remain active on the board as "past president."
-
Jim Shaw reported that our association officiated approximately 750 high school games
and 320 junior high school games last season.
-
Glenn reported that Snohomish High School will be holding a summer girls basketball
tournament on June 29 and June 30. Our association will be hired to provide
referees and it will be assigned by Dan Tayor. There was considerable board discussion
on using summer tournaments as fundraisers for the association to fund a "evaluator
program" for referees. To justify withholding some of the referees fees, something would
need to be "given" to the working officials such as videotapes of their games or perhaps
a written evaluation by veteran referees.
NEXT BOARD MEETING: Monday, July 29 at 7:00 PM
