Meeting Minutes for SCBOWBO

January 17, 2004

Meeting Minutes: Saturday, January 17, 2004:

  • Gunther Hausmann gave an update on host school problems. Meadowdale is doing better. If our officials request a room with a shower, they are being given one. If not request is made, we are still ending up in the laundry room. Officials need to request what they need. Gunther addressed the facilities at Lakewood High School with their superintendent. They will get a curtain put up so that we can use one of the locker room offices for dressing and showering.
  • Pat Kaminske informed everyone that board member elections will take place at our next meeting (Feb 2). Rob Werdell's name was nominated bring the number of candidates to an all-time high of seven.
  • Bruce Hoffman filled us in on the Special Olympics basketball tournament to be held at Kamiak High School on February 14. Volunteers are needed. At least 10 of our officials signed up. Good job refs!
  • Dan Taylor was ill so Pat Kaminske brought the assignments to the meeting and asked everyone to check their assignments and sign the duplicate copy.
  • Kevin Erickson gave a presentation on preventative officiating.
  • Jim Shaw informed officials that a state tournament pass is available for $10.00. The pass gets officials into all state tournaments (all sports). It does not get officials into regular season games or district playoffs.

Jim reminded everyone who has Excel software on their computer to use Todd Barnes' handy-dandy new electronic paysheet which calculates your mileage and game fee, plus allows you to choose your school site and partner from a drop down box.

Jim still needs background checks on several of our new officials.

  • Jason Bradley took nominations for player of the year, coach of the year, and host school of the year.
  • Gunther conducted the attendance raffle which was won by Ron Richard. Ron gets a free ref shirt. Congrats Ron!

BOARD MEETING: Sun, Jan 18:
  • The board selected the winners of the Dick Rodland Award, the most improved official, apprentice of the year and rookie of the year. Dan Taylor will choose his assignor's award recipient. The player of the year, host school of the year and coach of the year awards will be elected by the general body at our next meeting. Kevin will order the trophies and have them ready for our end-of-season party.
  • Dan Taylor will assign the District assignments which will then be reviewed by the board.
  • Ashley Thomas is going to select the individuals who will compile the ratings at the end of the season. He will select from a group of former officials recommended by the board.
  • Gunther, Jim Shaw and Dan Taylor will compile list of all officials who are eligible to rate. This list will be provided to Ashley Thomas by our next meeting on February 2.
  • The 2004-2005 board of directors will come up with a proposal for an additional penalty for not completing NFHS test.
    Not get rated?
    No games period?
  • Our end-of-year party (Feb 16) will be held at Alfy's Pizza in North Everett at 7:00 PM. This counts as a meeting.
  • Ashley will work with Jim Shaw to provide the gifts and short speech for the two outgoing board members (Kevin and Gunther).
  • Gunther has sent out scholarship application forms to all 27 of our high schools that we officiate. He reports that we have collected $1345.00 so far for this year's scholarship program.
