Meeting Minutes: Saturday, February 6, 2010:
Marysville Boys and Girls Club
1010 Beach Avenue Marysville, WA 98270
General Meeting Minutes
February 6, 2010
Meeting called to order at 9:00 am.
Lee announced the state tournament officials. They are:
4A- Mark Myers
3A- Todd Webber
2A- Donnie Johnson
1A- Tom Freal
2B- Jeff Schireman
The district tournaments are also coming up and officials are encouraged to go
watch the games. SCBOA and SCBOWBO members can get into the district tournaments
for free. Friends and family members have to pay at the door.
Kevin Stride reminded everyone that it is important to make sure you have all
of your gear when you go to a game. Troy Moe learned the hard way that is
embarrassing to forget your pants at home. Not only will you have to wear
someone elses pants, but you will also be recognized at the next meeting.
Shane Day reminded everyone to sign up for the golf tournament. The tournament
is April 17th. The deadline to sign up is April 13th and the deadline for the
fee to be taken out of your check is March 24th.
Voting took place for the board, player of the year, coach of the year, and
host school of the year. The winners were:
SCBOA
Vice President- Rob Findley
3 year board member- Rob Niffer
Player of the year- Jamieson McDaniels (Cascade)
Coach of the year- Nick Brown (Arlington)
Host school of the year- Grace Academy
SCBOWBO
New Board Members:
Bruce Hoffman
Nathan Murphy
Player of the year: Sami Clark (Monroe)
Coach of the Year (Glacier Peak)
Host school of the year: Grace Academy
Phillip James led a game tape discussion about different basketball plays. It
was perhaps the best presentation that SCBOA has ever seen.
NOTE: Phillip James took these notes.
It was also made clear that a player stopping a ball from going out
of bounds by placing their foot on top of the ball IS a kick ball.
Jon McInnis talked about the purpose of technical fouls. Often times behavior
that warrants a technical foul is not called. This creates a problem for the
next crew because the behavior wasnt taken care of before. Warnings and
technical fouls are tools that we can use to take control of the game.
There was discussion about where the chairs are set up in relation to the
coaches box. It is a good idea for officials to move the chairs before the game
so that the first chair is inside the coaches box. However, it is not a rule
that the chairs have to be in the box. If a coach decides to move the chair
back, we can not stop him. Either way, the head coach may only sit or stand in
the coaches box.
Meeting adjourned at 10:35 am.
SCBOWBO Board Meeting:
In Attendance: Kevin Stride, Mike Cashman, Leslie Tidball, Jack Palmer, Wayne
Sneva, Nathan Murphy, Bruce Hoffman.
Banquet Discussion on a feasible location: while we want to manage
perceptions we do not want to take away quality from the banquet. IF the Navy
base is available at the similar price would like to move forward with the navy
base. Also emphasis on recognizing as many officials as possible.
The board selected awards for Rookie, Apprentice of the year, Most improved
official, and the Dick Rodland Award.
Leslie will be working on getting all the plaques together for the banquet.
