Meeting Minutes

February 02, 2004

Monday, February 02, 2004:

  • The location for our last meeting on Feb 16 (also known as our year-end party) will be the North Broadway Alfy's (2317 Broadway).
  • Ashley led game scenario situations:
What to do at the end of the game when a coach is yelling "foul" to his/her players?
It is not a travel when a player runs with the ball on their back or neck. A player must have control of the ball to travel.
Clock and shot clock problems at Sultan High School were discussed.
  • Our "coach of the year," "player of the year," and "host school of the year" awards were voted on. Stanwood won our host school award, Doug Montzingo of Kamiak won coach of the year, and Randi Richardson of Arlington won player of the year.
  • Board member elections were held. Tony Churlin and Troy Moe are the new board members and they will replace Kevin Erickson and Gunther Hausmann on July 1. Kevin and Gunther were thanked for their three years of service to the board.
  • Inform everyone that pay sheets and rating sheets are due by March 15. Any sheets received after that date will be subject to fine(s) per the constitution. Pay sheets are to be sent to Jim Shaw and ratings sheets go to the ratings compilers as chosen by Ashley Thomas.
  • Apprentices were recognized. This is the best group of new officials that SCBOWBO has ever had.
  • State Passes are available for $10.00, covers all state tournaments for all sports for the rest of the year. Contact Jim Shaw. To receive the WOA newsletter submit you e-mail address to Jim Shaw. Any issues for the WOA executive board need to be submitted before 2/14. NFHS tests were returned. Excel paysheet developed by Todd Barnes may be submitted to Jim by e-mail for payment
  • Dan Taylor requested that officials view their "year-long pay sheets" and let him know if any corrections need to be made. Call Dan if you are interested in rec ball and/or 7th and 8th grade assignments.
  • Glenn Dunbar spoke briefly about the SCBOWBO website and asked the board to provide reasonable funding to continue the site.
  • Gunther discussed the latest info on the SCBOWBO scholarship program.
  • Nick Nickerson won the attendance raffle and will receive a free referee shirt.
  • Greg Osborne thank the board for the video taping program this year.

BOARD MEETING

  • District assignments were discussed.

Tony Churlin, Paul Patterson, Rob Werdell, and Duane Taylor were shown as having missed three meetings. They need to make up one each to be district qualified.

District assigning methods were discussed. Dan Taylor proposed assigning 1-5 on the first pass, 1-10 on the second pass, 1-15 on the third pass. Top officials would get 4-5 games each, lower people would get 2-3. Board elected to stay with the 3x1-15 passes as discussed last year. Additional pig-tail type games to be assigned to people sitting out of state and 16-20 as necessary.

NEXT MEETING: Monday, February 16, 2004 - 7:00 PM
