General Meeting
Meeting called to order at 9:00 AM
Kevin Erickson reminded everyone to sign the attendance book that was being
passed around.
Todd Weber announced all the mentor relationships and introduced mentors and
mentees.
Todd also asked that all apprentices bring questions and game situations to the
December 15 meeting for discussion.
Mike Cashman reminded everyone of the service pin program for each association.
For SCBOA, all officials should enter their years of service in the "Misc
Fields" section of Arbiter. For SCBOWBO, the attendance book had a column to
enter the information. Years of service is as of the end of the 2006-2007
season.
Rich McGuire reminded everyone that both associations conduct their ratings at
the end of the season. It is imperitive that officials keep notes througout the
season on the officials that they need to rate. Apprentices do not rate.
Transfers rate in their second year. Rich is the chairperson of the ratings
committee and he will have further info for the SCBOA association at the 5th or
6th general meeting.
Lee Ottini and Dan Taylor reminded officials to keep their Arbiter calendars up
to date. They also discussed th ejection procedure (assignors must have a report
on any ejection within 48 hours).
Sportsmanship Nomination Approvals were discussed by Trent and Kamiak's Meca
(#3) was approved for the first award of this season.
Leslie Tidball discussed a basketball situation that happened in the game of a
crew that she was on. It was a great discussion. The bottom line is that
officials need to take their time and go through the proper process on a player
disqualification. Communication with our partners, the coach and the scorer's
table crew is the key.
Kevin Erickson mentioned that we need to exchange information more as a group.
Some ways to do this are the SCBOA website discussion boards, meeting on Friday
nights at one of the designated meeting spots (Razzel's in Lake Stevens or the
Buzz-Inn in Eastmont). Kevin reminded the group that general meetings are one of
the few times when officiating information is brought to us. Most times, we need
to go get it (camps, mentors, getting taped etc.). He encouraged officials to
use their mentors and other experienced officials to accelerate their learning
process. We have a few injured officials right now who would probably be willing
to observe games if requested.
Trent reminded officials to notify their assignor if their are any problems or
inadequate hosting by any particular school.
Matt Mason gave a presentation to the group that included topics such as
mentoring, improving year-round, believability, player disqualifications, dead
ball officiating and some random thoughts.
